BEER FESTIVAL CALENDAR FAQs

Who are you guys?

First things first. Ludwig, the beer-drinking lion, is the head of the operation. Paul Ruschmann and Maryanne Nasiatka, his assistants, maintain the site. Both of them draw on their years of experience traveling to most of the United States and much of Europe, enjoying beer in famous and unusual places.

Maryanne and Paul are also the owners of Blue Lion Media, LLC. They're researchers and writers, and this website is an example of the kind of work they can do.

About Us."

Why did you create this site?

When we got started in 2001, we discovered that no website had a comprehensive list of festivals, so we decided to build one ourselves. Over the years, the number of festivals has grown, and so has our following. Thanks for your support!

How complete and accurate is your site?

With around 1300 events, we have the Internet's most complete listing of beer festivals. We don't have every festival–yet–because some evens no web presence or haven't publicized their websites. But we've made a lot of progress.

As for accuracy, we double-check our listings with the official festival website or one of the organizers. Still, nobody's perfect: festival dates and times, participating breweries, and scheduled activities are all subject to change. We strongly suggest you contact the festival before you attend.

How do you find festivals for your calendar?

We rely on a number of sources including brewers' organizations, beer bars and breweries, chambers of commerce, and tourist bureaus. We also stay in touch with the people who run festivals, especially since many events are annual traditions. And Ludwig gets plenty of fan mail from festival organizers who want their events to be listed.

My festival isn't on your calendar. How do I submit it?

Simple. Click on "Contact Us" and fill out the form we've provided. Be sure to tell us a few details (like "Beer from 20 Michigan breweries" or "jazz, blues, and zydeco music") that make your event special; and be sure to include a link to the official festival site or the name and phone number and/or email address of a festival contact person. If you've got a festival news release, we'd love to see it.

I found a mistake on the festival calendar. How can I let you know about it?

Click on "Contact Us" and tell us what listing contains the mistake, and what we need to do to fix it. And thanks in advance for your help.

Can I link to beerfestivals.org?

Absolutely. It would make Ludwig's day if you do.

What is the "Beer Traveller Series"?

Glad you asked. The story began in 2000, when Paul started a column called "The Beer Traveller" for a Canadian website. In 2003 All About Beer magazine invited Paul to take over a column called the "Beer Travelers." This is a one "L", two-person operation: Maryanne is co-author of, as well as the photographer for, this bi-monthly column. You can find all of these columns, as well as some that were written specially for the Beer Calendar, by clicking on "Beer Traveller Series." There are more than 60 in all.

What are "Good Beer Books?"

Paul likes to read good books, and loves to review the ones he finds worthwhile. The "Good Beer Books" section of this website contains beer book reviews that he's written over the years.

If you would like Paul to consider reviewing your book please contact us.

Where can I buy the "Michigan Breweries" book?

You can find a complete description and a purchase icon here.
