November 22-December 21 (weekends): Denver Christkindl Market, Denver, CO
The German Cultural Foundation of the Rocky Mountains and the German American Chamber of Commerce--Colorado Chapter present the 13th annual Denver Christkindl Market, which will take place at Skyline Park in downtown Denver. This multi-weekend event is a traditional German Christmas market, with holiday lights; vendor cabins, with German food and artisan items for sale; and a variety program of musical performances. There will be a Parade of Lights on Friday and Saturday, December 6-7. The festival is sponsored in part by Paulaner HP USA, and four of Paulaner's beers will be served, along with warm Gluhwein.
November 29-1: Chorlton Love Beer Festival, Chorlton Cum Hardy, England
Love Beer Festivals presents the 2013 Chorlton Love Beer Festival, which will take place at the South West Manchester Cricket Club in Chorlton Cum Hardy. This three-day event will feature a variety of beers from Manchester-area breweries. There will also be music from local artists and street food from Guerrilla Eats.
3-7: Pig's Ear Beer & Cider Festival, London, England
The East London & City Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale presents the 30th Pig's Ear Beer & Cider Festival, which will take place at the Round Chapel in Hackney, London E5. This five-day event will feature more than 250 domestic and overseas beers, including cask-conditioned ales, beer from new breweries in Hackney and the rest of London, and more than 30 ciders.
4-7: Harwich & Dovercourt Winter Ale Festival, Dovercourt, England
The Tendring Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale presents the 12th annual Harwich & Dovercourt Winter Ale Festival, which will take place at the Kingsway Hall in Dovercourt. Organizers expect to have more than 50 Real Ales, along with ciders and bottled continental beers. Food will be available, and there will be live music Friday and Saturday evenings.
4-8: Portland Holiday Ale Festival, Portland, OR
The Oregon Brewers Guild presents the 2013 Portland Holiday Ale Festival, which will take place downtown in Pioneer Square. Recent editions of this festival have featured 50 strong ales including Imperial IPAs, barleywines, winter warmers, and Scotch ales. The venue itself is heated, contains one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees, and has a clear tent that allows views of the city lights. The festivities also include a "Beer and Brunch" event on Sunday.
6-7: Winter Beer Fest, Seattle, WA
The Washington Beer Commission presents the 2013 Winter Beer Fest, which takes place this year at a new venue, Hangar 30 at Magnuson Park in Seattle. This two-day, three-session event will feature beer from around 50 Washington breweries, with an emphasis on winter seasonals. Attendees are invited to vote for the People's Choice Awards. Food will be available for purchase, and there will be a Holiday Gift Shop.
7: Smugglers' Notch Brewfest, Part 1, Jeffersonville, VT
Smugglers' Notch, a ski resort in Jeffersonville, will host Part 1 of its 19th annual Brewfest. This evening event, to be held in the Meeting House, will feature local and regional beers and wines, appetizers from the resort's Mountain Grille, and a DJ.
7: 12 South Winter Warmer, Nashville, TN
Midtown Wine & Spirits presents the third annual 12 South Winter Warmer, which organizers describe as "Nashville's first and only winter beer festival." This tented afternoon event will take place at Sevier Park. There will be beer from more than 25 breweries, including a number of rare beers, along with live music and food from local restaurants. There will be an after-party at Craft Brewed following the festival itself.
7: Valley Forge Beer Festival, Oaks, PA
Starfish Junction and BeerHeads.com present the third annual Valley Forge Beer Festival, which will take place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks. There will be afternoon and evening tasting sessions, each with more than 100 beers from 50 local, national, and foreign breweries; an educational program; and food for purchase. This year's festival charity is the Committee to Benefit the Children.
13: Friday the Firkenteenth, Philadelphia, PA
Friday the Firkenteenth, held at the Grey Lodge in Philadelphia, has become a Friday the 13th tradition, with 20 or more firkins of cask-conditioned beer to sample. This is the only known beer event in the world whose frequency and timing are entirely at the mercy of the calendar.
13-15: Vancouver Winter Brewfest, Vancouver, WA
The 2013 Vancouver Winter Brewfest will be held at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver. This three-day event will feature beer from more than 20 breweries, with an emphasis on winter seasonals. There will be live music, and food vendors will be on hand. All proceeds will benefit Naydenov Gymnastics Booster Club.
14: The Big Sip Expo, Greensboro, NC
AllStar Events, LLC, presents the second annual Big Sip, which will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum Pavilion. This afternoon event will offer attendees an opportunity to sample beer, wine and spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. There will be two tasting sessions: the Connoisseur Expo, with homebrew and coffee-making demonstrations and voting for the "Big Sip Cup"; and, immediately following, the General Public Expo, at which there will also be live music.
14: Haddenham Winter Real Ale Festival, Haddenham, England
The winter 2013 Haddenham Real Ale Festival will be held at the Village Hall complex in Haddenham. This afternoon event, which is a fund-raiser for charity, will feature 24 Real Ales, along with a selection of ciders . There will also be food for purchase and stalls selling a wide range of Christmas gifts.
14-15: Kerstbierfestival, Essen, Belgium
The Objective Beer Tasters of the Essen Region present the 2013 Kerstbierfestival, which will take place at Heuvelhal in Essen. The festival's name, in English, is "Christmas Beer Festival." Recent editions have featured more than 100 Belgian Christmas and winter beers, including 12 to 16 on draft, along with hot Gluhkriek, soup, beef stew, and bread prepared with Christmas beer.
