2-6: Portland Holiday Ale Festival, Portland, OR

In early December, the Oregon Brewers Guild presents the Portland Holiday Ale Festival, which takes place downtown in Pioneer Square. Some 40 potent beers, winter ales, including Imperial IPAs, barleywines, winter warmers, and Scotch ales, will be served. The venue itself is heated, is home to one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees, and has a clear tent that allows views of the city lights. Festivities also include a "Beer and Brunch" event on Sunday.

3-4: Washington Beer Commission Winter Beer Festival, Seattle, WA

The Washington Beer Commission presents the Winter Beer Fest, which will take place at a location to be determined. This two-day festival will feature a variety of winter beer from more than 30 Washington breweries. The popular Vintage Beer Tasting, with some of Washington’s favorite winter beers from years past, will also return. People's Choice" awards will be presented for both the favorite beer and the best brewery booth decorations.

18-19: Kerstbierfestival, Essen, Belgium

In mid-December, the Objective Beer Tasters of the Essen Region present Kerstbierfestival, which takes place at Heuvelhal in Essen. The festival's name, in English, is "Christmas Beer Festival," with more than 100 Belgian Christmas and winter beers, including 12 to 16 on draft. There is also hot Gluhkriek, soup, beef stew, and bread prepared with Christmas beer.
